Preparing for the 2008 Fishing Season
Ok all.
There was 3 things I didn’t do enough of in 2007.
1.) Kayaking
2.) Fishing
3.) Blogging
We’ll see what we can do about that this year. I make no promises, as life and work, as always, have gotten more complicated. Gone are the days of being in college. Actually, long gone are those days, now that I think about it. I got out of school fifteen years ago.
I’m going to try to check in once a week on the blog, and kayak fish twice a week. One weekend day, and one week night.
My new office is a scant 5 minutes from the Black Creek/ Genesee River park, so it should make for some good evening fishing.
In the meantime, I’ll try to blog a bit about what I’m doing to prepare for fishing this spring (UV proofing the kayak, etc.)
I hope to dip the boat in the water in March for some scouting, or maybe even some Spring run trout fishing. We shall see.
So you guys get your crap together too. What do you do to get ready? Let me know below.

Hey I just stumbled across this blog. I discovered kayaking last summer and now I am hooked. I went out a ton all over western NY. I spend a lot of time on Black Creek dropping in behind ARC and also in Churchville since this is where I live. I rigged the kayak for fishing but didnt have much luck anywhere I went. Got any good suggestions on what type of lures or bait to use while in Black Creek? Whats good for trout season?

One of the baits I use in Black Creek is a small, small white spinnerbait, which usually come in packages labeled as Crappie or panfish spinnerbaits.
I’ve also taken fish on Senko worms (pumpkin or other reddish ones) in the 4 to 6 inch size.
And amazingly, the Banjo Minnow works pretty well.
I haven’t kayaked for trout, but I was considering fishing the mouth of Oatka in my kayak one of these weekends. I would bring a light spinning rod, and some Panther Martin spinners.

Thanks for the information! Maybe by the end of next week I can test some of that out while in my kayak. I am heading out to Irondequoit Creek today to see if I can find some trout! Still a little cold for the kayak so I will be on foot… I am dying to get the kayak out!

Not sure if you have email notifications turned on Steve, but I was wondering how you were doing in the Kayak and on Black Creek this year?
