Kayak fishing is a sport increasing in popularity, but still rather new. Couple that with a rapidly approaching Father’s Day, and I’m sure we’re left with countless wives and children wondering just what in the heck to get Dad for Father’s Day that he’ll be able to put to use. It’s incredibly difficult for a few reasons, first being I haven’t found any silk kayak fishing ties yet (though I’ll be they are out there), and second, kayak fishing is a sport that most haven’t participated in, so they don’t know what’s handy.
So, if I was a father, here’s what I would have on my list (and a lot of it is on sale):
Dry Bags and Waterproof Storage
Dad needs to keep all sorts of stuff dry while out kayak fishing. I keep a cell phone, sometimes a GPS, and a full change of clothes with me wile I’m out paddling. RockCreek has a good selection of dry bags and other stuff under $50. Click on the More Info link at each product to see product comparisons and coupons.
Kayak Fishing Lights and Accessories
Here’s a gift that works for all of you. Fishermen often suffer from what is known as “one last cast syndrome”. What that means is we’re not always smart enough to start paddling home before it gets too dark out, and that presents some safety concerns. REI has some excellent lighting products under $50 to make sure Dad gets home in one piece.
Kayak Fishing Tackle and Gear Bags
A lot of times, we have to walk quite a distance to the launch with our kayaks, tackle, rods, paddles, PFDs… you get the picture. Here’s a convenient bag to make that a LITTLE easier.
Waterproof Shoes, Boots and Socks for Kayak Fishing
It’s a good idea to have waterproof socks and footwear when you are out kayak fishing. Sure, when it’s 85 degrees out, we tend not to care, but there are definitiely situations where it simply isn’t that warm out (hey, we don’t all fish for tarpon in Costa Rica…)
The Game On Kayak Fishing Movie
This is a great gift for those rainy, blustery days that we think better of heading out on the water. Jim Sammons and company head out in search of muskie, pike and bass on the Ottawa River in Canada. Yeah, they do some of that salt water stuff too. Must be nice to live on the ocean :)
So there you have it. My Top 5 Father’s Day Gifts for Kayak fishing. Hope you can find something dad will enjoy!
