Welcome to kayak fishing! We are fortunate to have so many places to fish for many different species of fishes in the Rochester area. Silver Lake (great kayak fishing at the north end), Conesus (although I avoid this lake during the busy summer), Hemlock, Canadice, and Honeoye are all within about 45 minutes drive. Several parks have fishable waters such as Mendon Ponds Park nearby. Black Creek has State launch sites. Although I have yet to fish in the Erie Canal, I'm told by fellow kayak anglers that parts of it to the east of Rochester can be good fishing and are great when the wind is blowing too hard to be elsewhere. Along Lake Ontario, you can find many adjacent ponds and bays including Irondequoit Bay, Long Pond, Braddock Bay - also several creeks that feed into Lake Ontario have access and are fantastic for kayak fishing. In fact, there are so many places to fish, it's impossible to hit them all in one season. If you aren't already signed up for the Western NY Kayak Fishing Association (see link on Fishgator homepage), you can keep informed about informal joint fishing trips to some of these spots. See you on the water!<br>-Paul
