Sage Two Handed-Spey Rods

Wherever your quest for steelhead or salmon takes you, from the rumbling, glacial rivers of the Pacific Northwest to Quebec, Iceland or Russia, one fact is a constant: you will have to cover a lot of water. Sage’s two-handed rods are designed to make long casts and powerful mends easier and more efficient. In other words, you’ll spend more time fishing effectively and less time stripping line, false casting and snagging streamside brush.

Sage Bass and Bluegill Series Fly Rods

A 7′ 11″ 4 piece rod that comes with a specially designed fly line that makes presenting large flies into impossibly tight quarters a snap. These rods are incredible. We have found them to cast impossibly large flies with the greatest of ease and without the effort usually associated with the typical 9′ 7-9 wt fly rod. They also allow for a quick hook set, and give you more leverage for stopping a fish before a quick dash into the nearest obstruction. Even if you are an occasional bass or pike angler, we highly recommend these rods. In English, they make this kind of fishing more fun.

The Bluegill Rod comes with a 230 grain shooting head style fly line. Perfect for small to medium sized poppers – panfish, smallmouth and medium sized largemouth

The Smallmouth Rod comes with a 290 grain line. Great for medium to large poppers, streamers and whatever else you might throw for smallies, largemouth, smaller pike and smaller inshore saltwater fish.

The Largemouth Rodcomes with a 330 grain line. Although marketed under the “Bass” headline, we have friends that use these rods to fish snook, tarpon, largemouth, pike, musky and anything else you can imagine.

They also come with a handy travel case. All of this for under $400 makes them a bargain as well. (Reel not included)

Sage explains these beauties as follows:

After working with a small, tight-lipped group of serious bass anglers, we’ve developed two new rods that can drop a hair frog or an air-light diver with pinpoint accuracy and hardly a ripple on the water. From a fly fishing perspective, we’re talking about effortlessly pushing big, wind-resistant bugs into tight quarters. Available in two models, Smallmouth and Largemouth, both rods measure 7’11″, which slides them just under the strict bass tournament rules for rod length. Additionally, both rods are sold with custom bass taper flylines and a travel case for protection.

Sage ZXL

Bottom line is this- The new ZXL Rods cast like butter, but somehow develop enough line speed to get the job done effortlessly. We were worried that the SLT 383-4, one of our staff’s favorite Wisconsin spring creek rods, would not have a worthy successor. We worry too much around here. The ZXL’s are a huge improvement of the previous series, and will be a pleasure to fish for years to come!

The new ZXL rods are significantly lighter, stronger and easier to cast for everyone who enjoys the relaxed casting rhythm of a smooth progressive taper. Through the miracle of Sage’s G5 process, they were able to remove every gram of unnecessary material from each blank and replace traditional glass hoop fibers with lighter, more responsive graphite.

On the water, they are simply dreamy. The smooth, progressive action flexes down to the grip, making incredibly delicate presentations and reminding you to kick back, relax and enjoy.

All ZXL rods feature a narrower grip for increased comfort and feedback, slim-line nickel silver and rosewood reel seats, ultra-slender blanks and a deep “pomegranate” color.
