A Big Howdy!

Hello everyone! This is my first blog here on FishGator working with Kevin to promote the sport of kayak fishing in Western NY. We are having a lot of fun in the process.  I moved up to the Finger Lakes with my wife and two kids from Oklahoma going on six years ago and have been kayak fishing for about as long.  I absolutely love the diversity of fishing opportunities that are found in this region and fishing from a kayak is by far my preferred method.

One of the things that is most exciting to me is that the new FishGator forum is one of the few kayak fishing forums dedicated to freshwater angling.  This is quite appropriate for those of us here in Western New York don’t you think? After a kayak upgrade in the near future, I hope to join some friends in going after striped bass, bluefish, and weakfish off of the East Coast where kayak fishing is hot. However, my day-to-day angling is done close to home in sweet water where smallies, trout, and northern pike abide. As such, there are many differences compared with saltwater, which up to now has gotten the most attention in the kayak fishing community.  This oversight is about to change…

I have some thoughts about ways to make kayak fishing even more fun and look forward to sharing them with you here. I encourage you to join the FishGator Forum. Come on in, the water is fine!

I have been a dedicated freshwater kayak angler for the past nine years. I had fished off and on my whole life, but fishing from a kayak unleashed the beast. I earned my Ph.D. in Zoology from Oklahoma State University in 2002, and am an Associate Professor in Biological Sciences at a large private university in Western New York. I helped to co-founder the Western New York Kayak Association, regularly blog for www.fishgator.com and am a MEMBER OF TEAM MALIBU KAYAKS pro-staff. I reside in the Finger Lakes with my wife and two children.
