Long considered the perfect material for fly line, fly fishermen are rediscovering the virtues of bamboo. For some, the attraction lies in the aesthetic of fishing with a beautiful, natural material; for others, it is the hallowed tradition of rod-builders Leonard, Payne, Gillum and Garrison. All can appreciate the physical characteristics of bamboo, as it imparts just the right amount of energy to a fly line to propel it accurately toward its target, while still giving the caster time and opportunity to make subtle adjustments to their cast. A small dry fly will land softly and a fine tippet will survive the setting of the hook.
Highland Mills Rod Co. was born of an opportunity to bring to market a high quality, affordable line of bamboo fly rods in the tradition of Heddon, Wright & McGill and Phillipson bamboo rods.
These rods are built using traditional methods, contemporary technology and state-of-the-art adhesives and coatings.
-All rods are 2 piece, varnished with red wraps tipped in black.
-Ferrules, hook keepers and winding checks are nickel silver.
-3 and 4 weight rods are fitted with nickel silver slide band reel seat with a Walnut insert
-5 & 6 weight rods have an anodized screw lock reelseat with a walnut insert.
-Each rod is supplied with two tips, aluminum rod tube and poplin rod bag.
