Apparently Canadice and Hemlock Lakes are excepted from the proposed moratorium on state land acquisitions in the New York State budget. Governor Patersen made the announcement in a speech this morning.

I have mixed feelings about this because the lakes, the most pristine and least developed of all of the Finger Lakes, have been well-protected by the City of Rochester. The Department of Environmental Conservation has been managing fish and wildlife resources for the lake and I hope that the good work continues. Supposedly, this is being done to continue protection of the lakes by preventing them from being sold to private developers by the City of Rochester. I’m hopeful… Other thoughts?
If in fact it's done to preserve the shorelines as “no build”, and to completely prevent the privatization of the waters, than I'm all for it.
A couple of questions though, that I'm sure will be answered shortly….
1.) Will we continue to need to carry a free permit? I think it's important everyone reads that before using the water.
2.) Will they maintain the 9.9hp and under restriction on both lakes? I sure hope so. Ithink you could even make Canadice electric only, and leave Hemlock as is. Short of that though, 9.9 is acceptable.
It seems from other things that I've read that there is a desire to keep the lakes status quo, which is fine by me.
